Dancers unite for Urdd Eisteddfod

Anthill Africa Dancers for Urdd EisteddfodExperienced dancers from the renowned Dawnswyr Talog dance troop will be dancing to a very different tune next week.

The folk dancers are hoping to learn a few new steps from African dancers, Anthill Africa, who will be joining them at a special evening to raise money for the National Urdd Eisteddfod, to be held in Carmarthen between 28th May and 2nd June.

The Twmpath Dawns, a traditional folk dancing gathering will be held at St Peter’s Civic Hall in Carmarthen on 8th May, sponsored by Western Power Distribution (WPD), the South Wales electricity business. The company will also sponsor a designated dance pavilion at the Eisteddfod, to be held at the United Counties Show Ground, near Carmarthen.

Huw Evans from WPD said: “We are delighted to be associated with both the Twmpath Dawns and the Urdd Eisteddfod. In today’s Wales it’s important that youngsters are able to learn about different cultures and both these occasions provide the perfect opportunity for them to do so. We are sure they will find the range of events on offer both entertaining and rewarding.”

With the National Urdd Eisteddfod in Carmarthenshire only five weeks away, competitors up and down the country are keen to ensure they’re word, note and step perfect. And Dawnswyr Talog are no exception. They will be competing in no less than ** competitions during the week-long event.

“This event is a taste of things to come at the Eisteddfod where dancers of all traditions will come together to compete and showcase their talents.

“Dance is a powerful medium, which speaks volumes without any need for language. Dance will be prominent at this year’s Eisteddfod and I welcome the Urdd’s vision and Western Power Distribution’s sponsorship which enables all this to happen,” said Sioned Page, Chair of Dawnswyr Talog as well as the National Urdd Eisteddfod’s Dance Committee.
