Boost for visually impaired computer users

Bridge VizVisually impaired people in Bridgend are being encouraged to take advantage of an innovative computer training service which has just been launched.

The service is provided by the charity Bridge Vis at their newly opened computer suite based at the Richard Price Community Centre in Llangeinor, and follows sponsorship from South Wales electricity company Western Power Distribution (WPD).

The power company provided a range of special software programs which enable blind and partially sighted people to use computer equipment.

Bridge Vis also provides a range of information and advice services to the visually impaired in the county borough of Bridgend – which totals around 1,000 people in that area.

Anita Davies, Volunteer Services Manager for Bridge Vis, explained: “Our computer suite is brand new, having only just been officially opened by Janice Gregory AM, and is the first facility of its kind in the area. It means that people with some level of sight loss can have access to computer equipment without having to be in employment or education.”
