Donation to create Community Woodland

Ashwell Community Woodland

New native trees have been planted at Ashwell in Ilminster to help create a community woodland.

With the support of South Somerset Climate Action group, local resident Pamela Sellars has encouraged Dillington Estate to donate an area of land adjacent to a footpath for the project.

The woodland, apart from offering walks for the enjoyment of local people, will also help improve carbon and flood relief in the local environment, and will increase the local biodiversity by adding a new habitat for wildlife.

A total of 900 native trees have been planted by volunteers in recent months to create the woodland. Also involved have been the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), who are sponsored by Western Power Distribution (WPD).

Pamela Sellars said: “The tree planting has been a great help. Without the support of WPD and volunteers from BTCV this planting would not have been achieved within the foreseeable future.”
