Tribute to Welsh Warrior
Colleagues from Western Power Distribution (WPD) in Cwmbran who won £1,000 in their company’s annual safety competition have donated all their winnings to charity.
Staff based at WPD’s Ty Coch depot have given £500 each to charities ‘When you Wish upon a Star‘ and the ‘Welsh Warrior Appeal’.
“We decided to put the names of all our chosen charities into a draw and pick two lucky winners,” explained Team Manager, Steve Miles.
“When you Wish upon a Star sends sick children on holidays of a lifetime, while the Welsh Warrior Appeal was formed in memory of soldier Richard Hunt who was the 200th soldier to die in Afghanistan, and whose family live in Abergavenny,” said Steve.
The Warrior appeal was nominated by Robert Powell who works at the Plant Centre but who previously served in the Royal Artillery. He has a family connection with the late soldier.
“My sister-in-law is related to him, and so I went along to a fundraising event at Abergavenny’s Bailey Park and handed over our cheque to his mother Hazel, who founded the charity. She was delighted to receive our donation,” said Robert.
